On 18 July, HMCAP will host a community screening of the National Emergency Briefing Film — a short, accessible overview of the major risks the UK faces and the practical steps we can all take to be better prepared.
This film has been created to help communities understand the findings of the UK Government’s National Risk Register (NRR) — the official public report that sets out the most significant civil risks facing the country, from extreme weather and flooding to infrastructure disruption. The NRR is published by the Cabinet Office and is updated regularly to reflect the latest evidence, expert analysis, and national preparedness planning.
By bringing this national information into a local setting, the Maldon screening helps us explore what preparedness means for a coastal district shaped by the estuary, rural villages, tidal challenges, and strong neighbour‑to‑neighbour networks.
The film is calm, factual, and designed to build confidence, not fear. It highlights simple, practical actions that help households stay safe, connected, and resilient during major disruptions. After the screening, there will be space to discuss what this means specifically for Maldon and the surrounding villages.
Next weekend (25/01/26) is the RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch, and the team will be on-site at OWLS (see Our Wild Local Space project) from 10am to count the birds and then later greet the walkers taking part in the Winter Saltmarsh Walking Festival.
